Brazil

HeartRescue Brazil focuses on working with government, healthcare, and community partners in Sao Paulo to improve access and quality for acute CVD care for the underserved, drawing upon lessons learned and expertise from the U.S. HeartRescue Project and from the expertise of its in-country partner, the Brazil Clinical Research Institute.

Key Aims

  • Engage multi-sector stakeholders, including government agencies, medical professional societies, local health care providers, community groups, patients, and families
  • Strengthen acute CVD systems of care, so that high quality services become available and accessible to the acute CVD patient population that is currently severely underserved, with many preventable deaths occurring as a result
  • Improve the capacity of the EMS and hospitals to respond rapidly and effectively to patients with suspected STEMI and support rapid thrombolysis in cases which transfer for primary PCI takes longer than desired
  • Improve pre-hospital care for STEMI, including improved ECG availability in ambulances
  • Increase the proportion of STEMI and cardiac arrest victims surviving with good functional outcomes
